Improving Water Quality in the Citarum River through Economic Policy Approaches

This study examines the upper basin of Citarum River in West Java, Indonesia, to analyze optimal environmental policy and issues affecting balance between economic activities water environment conservation, for example, controlling quality while maximizing region. The quantitative results derived using model simulation analysis clarifies study’s issues. An integrated linking two sub-models describing socio-economic dynamics pollutants was simulated. incorporates government subsidies sewerage system maintenance septic tank installation as variables control. Further, amount these changes local according pollution load constraints are a time-series structure each region from 2015 2030. gross regional product (GRP) maximization problem is solved under inflow total nitrogen, phosphorus, chemical oxygen demand into river. showed that most favorable conservation can be achieved by setting constraint 2030 at +3% level maximum annual cost measures 10 times current budget Java Province.
